On Thursday, my finger started to hurt. By Friday morning, it was red and swollen and astonishingly painful. Friday night, I gave in and saw my GP.
Diagnosis: Paronychia. The finger infection that has its own name.
I’ve never heard of this before. But I am glad I went to my Dr.
What I expected:
Me: “My finger hurts”
Dr: “Do you want me to kiss it better?”
What actually happened:
Me: “My finger hurts”
Dr: “Wow!!”
She lanced it to relieve the abscess that was forming, and then wrote me up a prescription. Antibiotics 4x a day (at least 2 hours after & 1 hour before food), bathe it in hot salt water, use antiseptic cream … so much for ‘put a bandaid on it and kiss it better’!
Today’s random piece of trivia?
There is a kind of finger infection called a felon. As in, “Oww, that felon hurt my finger”

Ouch! Not fun, not fun at all. But at least you actually went to see a doctor about it!
And now I know where you’ve been hiding out, instead of over on LJ!
