When we were away this weekend, Fraser’s sister was in the room next to ours. The walls were, at best, paper-thin.

We wanted to play games into the night, she typically goes to bed quite early. She valiantly stayed up until one of us could tear themself away from a game – but was it really necessary?

Biggie is 8 nearly 9, Otto 4. If not for the Madeleine McCann case, I think we would have considered leaving them in the (locked) room – with Auntie in the next room – once they were asleep. The motel has closed-circuit TV over the main carpark, and only one entrance/exit. We would have been a minute’s run away from the room, and Biggie knows my mobile phone number. Last year, we left them sleep while we went for an early breakfast. It seems safe enough.
Much to ponder.

Terrifying, isn’t it? My kid is 11 now and I’d like to send him 200 metres down the road to the shop, but Daniel Morcombe was 13… When my kid can control our dog he can take her with him, but she digs all 4 feet in and can drag him around still. He’ll probably be allowed to drive before I let him out to walk the dog.
