There comes a time in everyone’s life where their whitegoods start to fail. For us, it began with the video … then, in the last 12 months or so, the fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Last Saturday, it was the dishwasher’s turn.
Now the washing machine and tumble dryer were 20 years old or so. I could handle their demise quite well.
The fridge was a wedding gift. It was not supposed to fail after only about 10 years.
The dishwasher was a gift from my parents when the Bigster was born. I was about to say, that makes it 5 years old, but of course it is pushing 10 as well. They have similar dishwashers at Fraser’s work, and so he cornered a repairman today to ask questions.
Verdict: Don’t even bother with a service call.
Meanwhile, the tiler who has been putting me off for a month came today. He says we need to rip up all the tiles in the bathroom (the bathroom that was renovated in, um, early 2002) and re-tile with larger tiles. He recommends a full shower base instead of the pretty tiled-in effect that we have now. And it is a lot of work.
We do not do things on the cheap.
We had the bathroom renovated “properly” – at least, that was the brief we gave the builder and the quality we paid for. I think there may be a claim on the builder’s insurance for this (the tiler is pushing me to do it). We bought a really good brand of dishwasher, too.
The good news is that the tiler may be able to do the job while we are in Albury.
I am *so* looking forward to using my shower again.
